Do-it-Yourself Patent Research

Come learn about ways to conduct prior art searches on your own! Hear from an Ex-Patent Examiner from the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office regarding how Patent Examiners conduct their prior art searches.  A live prior art search will be conducted with audience participation.  Learn to think like an Patent Examiner when filing patent applications and responding to Office Actions. Critical issues relating to prior art searches such as duty of disclosure will also be discussed. 

Speaker: Anthony King, MS, JD

Anthony King is a registered patent Attorney and Of Counsel at Ardent Law Group in Irvine.  He is a former United States Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") Patent Examiner.  He works on a variety of intellectual property matters including patent prosecution, patent infringement opinion work, trademark, and copyright.

Mr. King also acts as the U.S. prosecution counsel for a number of Taiwanese intellectual property law firms. His office assists these Taiwanese law firms in managing and prosecuting their clients’ U.S. patent portfolios, and has ability to handle technologies relating to mechanical device, chip design, semiconductor, electronics, computer hardware and software, medical device, and biotechnology.

Mr. King has previously worked at nationally acclaimed firms such as Rutan & Tucker, LLP and Williams & Connolly, LLP. In both 2009 and 2010, he was named "Rising Star" by Southern California Super Lawyer magazine.  He received his Juris Doctor degree (Intellectual Property Track) from George Mason University School of Law in 2002, his Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maryland. He has also studied Chinese law at Beijing University, in Beijing, China. 

Registration starts at 7:00 P.M. and the seminar starts at 7:30 P.M. and lasts about 90 minutes. Refreshments are served in the lobby at 9:00 P.M. where you can network with other inventors.
Door fees are $10 for non-members and $5 for members. Parking is free.

Directions:
From I-405—exit Fairview Rd. and drive south to Merrimac Way. Turn right and drive to Lot E (5th driveway on the right). Walk to the front of the Lewis Center (large brick building). The Science Lecture Hall is just across from the Lewis Center main entrance.

From I-55 southbound—exit right onto Fair Drive westbound. At third traffic light, make a right onto Fairview Road northbound, at Merrimac Street westbound make a left turn and go to Parking Lot E.
